Note

a biting critique of Heidegger. Kaufmann says that his reading of Nietzsche was shallow, his authentic and inauthentic modes of being do not hold water, his thinking is authoritarian, he covered up important problems, his ideas were part of the romantic revival in Germany and his religious upbringing.

176 "The central point of my critique of Heidegger is to show how he impeded the discovery of the mind.

183 "Secondly, the impression created by Heidegger's elaborate terminology is thoroughly misleading. One is led to suppose that it is some warrant of rigor and scientific precision, but in fact the rigor is wholly spurious.

"Obscurity has its charms, and a great many people confound it with profundity. ... Many of those who turn to Heidegger or Jung are moved by religious needs. but Heidegger is a false prophet.
