Quotation

We have seen ... that the symbols of Logic are subject to the special law, x^2=x. Now of the symbols of Number there are but two, viz. 0 and 1, which are subject to the same formal law. ... Hence ... it is more immediately suggested to us to compare [the symbols of logic] with the symbols of quantity admitting only of the values 0 and 1. ... The laws, the axioms, and the processes, of [Algebra over 0 and 1] will be identical in their whole extent with the laws, the axioms, and the processes of an Algebra of Logic. Difference of interpretation will alone divide them. Upon this principle the method of the following work is established.   Google-1   Google-2
