comparing paper to electronic access to information

Note

Askwall studied search strategies used when the text was presented sentence by sentence. She found forward search (sentences in sequence) was used 32% of the time with VDU and 20% with paper. Selective search (pick random sentences to search for the answer) was used 49% by VDU and 15% by paper. Zig-zag searching (backing up and then reading forward repeatedly) 17% VDU and 43% paper. Dog-earing (marking a sentence and rereading it as desired) 0% VDU and 18% paper.
