Summary

A heterogeneous database integrates multiple databases. The databases usually have different or conflicting schemas. This simplifies sharing of information and implementing distributed applications.

Heterogeneous databases have had limited success, perhaps because change in one database can destroy the integration with other databases. (cbb 8/06)
