The problem is compounded when users must cope with a multitude of systems that have inconsistent data models. Standardizing the user interface produces, at best, a superficial similarity, but does not truly address the problem. The underlying differences still remain, and as programs become more sophisticated (e.g., distributed versions) these differences are even more troublesome for users.
