Summary
Most measurement in control systems involves generating an analog signal. This analog signal must be transmitted and may later be digitized for computation. Generally digital communication is more reliable and requires a smaller channel capacity. For instance long distance telephone lines can be digitized. A trend in measurement devices is digitizing all signals before transmission. The trend is encouraged by microcomputer controlled instrumentation. (cbb 5/80)
