Summary

A pattern is a specification for a pattern matching program. This program decodes a sequence into a syntactic structure. It determines the boundaries, or discontinuities, implicit in the sequence. It differentiates the set of sequences which match the pattern's picture of syntactic classes. (cbb 5/80)
