Summary

All control systems have alarm conditions which call for human intervention. These alarm conditions may be equipment breakdown, dangerous temperatures or pressures, security violations, or system failures. Traditional control systems have an alarm panel using horns and flashing lights to indicate an alarm occurrence. Larger plants replace the alarm panel with one or more display consoles providing visual indication of alarm status. Alarm occurrence and recovery should always be logged for later review. (cbb 5/80)
