Summary

Systems dedicated to document editing are called word processing systems. They can manipulate paragraphs, text arrangement, pagination, footnotes, literature references, table of contents, section headings, multiple type fonts, indexes, form letters, page headings, and letter addressing. They usually include a screen editor and letter quality printer. In programming systems, an editor is heavily used for both documentation and program modification, making all text in a system a complex interrelated document. (cbb 5/80)
