using keywords to search hypertext

Summary

Instead of providing queries over keywords and structure, a hypertext system can allow searches for strings. Since much of a hypertext is text, string searches are particularly useful. Often useful information will be found near string matches. Also provides a starting point for browsing.

As in keyword searching, the search can be limited to specific neighborhoods, and search results can be presented in different ways. Indexes improve speed. (cbb 6/89)
