Summary

Semi-structured text consists keyword-values and free-form text. Typically, the keyword-values occur in a header at the start of the text. The values may be typed or unrestricted. An email message is an example of semi-structured text. It allows automated processing.

Additional processing is possible if the headers come from a template or document type. Semi-structured is also useful for fill-in forms, automatic triggering, and filtering. Text markup allows additional structuring. (cbb 4/98)
